Numbers 14 contains the account of sending spies into the land God had promised the Israelites. When the people heard the report of the spies, how rich the land was, but that it was inhabited by giants, they wanted to go back home…back to living in slavery.
Joshua emerges onto the scene and reminds the people that God will give them the land, but that the people should not rebel against him. He even says, “do not be afraid…because we will swallow them up. Their protection is gone and the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them.”
Did Joshua’s words inspire the people when they heard it? No. They wanted to stone him.
What giants are you facing today? When the opposition comes, will you let it defeat you or will you stay strong even when your own people want to discourage you? God will bring down your enemies, but stand firm in his promises.
Good point! I will trust in His promises when my patience wanes, my children are screaming, and I can’t see the end in sight. But I’m not alone and He is faithful!!
